Identify the manifest selected as active and its basic claim information.
Read the C2PA manifest behind the status badge
Inspect claims, assertions, actions, ingredients, signatures and certificate-chain results in one structured report.
A manifest describes signed provenance claims. The inspector reports what is present and what validates; it does not verify factual truth.
Five layers to review
Start with the summary, then follow the layer that explains the question you are investigating.
Review actions, ingredients, software agents and other included assertions.
Check whether the signed data still matches the media being reviewed.
Confirm whether the claim signature validates.
Separate a valid signature from recognition under the active trust policy.
Move from summary to supporting evidence
A consistent sequence makes reports easier to compare across assets and reviewers.
Record the high-level result and validation warnings.
Inspect declared origin, actions and ingredients.
Review certificate subject, issuer and chain.
Preserve JSON evidence with your case notes.
Common questions the report can answer
Keep technical conclusions within the limits of the available evidence.
Supported conclusions
- Whether C2PA data was detected
- Whether integrity and signature checks passed
- Which actions were declared
- How the certificate chain was evaluated
Unsupported conclusions
- Whether every declaration is factually true
- Whether unsigned content is deceptive
- Whether media is necessarily AI-generated
- Whether the depicted event actually occurred
Export the report with the reviewed asset
For consequential review, retain the original file, the JSON report, the verification time and the policy used to interpret trust. A report separated from its asset loses essential context.
